Equip builds a full care team around each patient: a therapist, dietitian, medical provider, and mentors with personal experience of eating disorder recovery. Most virtual programs assign one or two clinicians; Equip coordinates all of these roles together, which keeps medical monitoring, nutrition work, and therapy from running in unconnected silos. Family-based treatment (FBT) is central to how Equip delivers care, drawing family members into the recovery process rather than treating the patient in isolation.
Treatment also draws from enhanced cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure and response prevention depending on each patient’s presentation. Research published by Equip found that eating disorder symptoms dropped by roughly half over the course of treatment, with average weight restoration tracking at about one pound per week for patients who needed it. The program is designed to be delivered without a residential or partial hospitalization stay for most patients.
